Ddr ram

alright, probably a stupid question. 512+128 DDR PC2100. Would ram speed be faster with just the 512? I've been told that mixing the two ram sizes causes the ram not to run its fastest, and that it needs to be put in pairs(i.e. 512+512).
I am aware that if/when the system is actually utilizing both sticks that it will go slightly slower when pulling data from both sticks of ram. but is the 512 not actually running as DDR, and therefore going slower.

Are both sticks DDR and same speed (ie.PC2100)? If yes, there is no problem running 2 different sizes. You will run faster, sorta. In normal applications (web, email, office) no, but in Video games and video editing, it would help.

it doesn't matter now. a capacitor came off my motherboard and i didn't feel like trying to repair it. so i bought a new motherboard and 1GB of PC3200 DDR :D
