CPU/Ram: AMD Sampron
Comment:

Just bought a new ASROCK M/B and an AMD Sampron 2200. Assembled all components but the system did not boot. Found out it’s the DDR 2700 512M causing the problem because when I change to DDR 3200 256M, it boots. I put these two DDR together and it boots too. The system recognises both DDR. This means that the DDR 2700 512M has no problem. Is the M/B or the memory problem?

1st of all, since your Sempron runs at 166MHz (333FSB), make sure to run your RAM at the same speed. Even if you run the PC3200 RAM by itself, don't run it at 200MHz (DDR400), change the setting in the BIOS so that it runs at the same bus speed as the CPU.

Run Memtest86 v3.2 to see if any errors are reported on you RAM. Go to the following site & download "Pre-Compiled Memtest86 v3.2 installable from Windows and DOS"... unzip it, then run INSTALL.BAT to create a bootable floppy. Then boot off the floppy & let the program run for at least one complete series of tests...if any errors are reported, determine which stick is defective & replace it.

i have never heard of a mobo brand called Asrock, and if it's cheap budget mobo, it probably has compatibility issues. first, though, try what jam has said ^^^.

Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours.

AS Rock is a "budget" line from Asus, and quite frankly they are not really cheap, and from my experience with them they are extremely fussy with ram and other things as well. I would not recommend them frankly.

As a former Asrock motherboard owner, i can certainly vouch, that they have serious ram problems, i went trhough 3 lots of different brand ram before i got it running stable. Had same sysmtons as you, it was so damm annoying. Even now a module likes to dissapear at will. Its now in the hands of me nan, she cant complain it was free.
