daughter got pc turned it on today it wouldn't open

Specs: Windows xp
she had message loss of file/corrupt she has got no restore disc what do she do please.

Sooo while you're computer was booting, it end up with a black or blue screen that say something that's related to "loss of file/corrupt"? Did you try booting it to "safe mode" (f8 for bootup page, depending on the PC). You can also reinstall the OS, check and see if your HDD is still working (do a memory test). If you can't boot it to anything, not even the bios setup. One or both the HDD and the motherboard is broken.

Hi Vinny,
it just had words windows-root.>\system 32\ntoskrnl.exe
I tried pressing F8 but it come up with same thing.

Are you sure about F8? Did you press F8 multiple times as soon as you turned on the computer until a menu came up?
