Not sure about laptops but this symptom in desktop computers usually indicates the CMOS battery is dead. Check to see if your laptop has a CMOS battery and if so replace it.

Your CMOS battery is exhausted and it must be replaced. Any computer shop can do it or you can order one and do yourself.

the cmos battery is usaully a 'silver coin' type battery within the laptop computer. Usually about 10 - 12 millimetres diameter.
in a desktop pc they are bare and clip into a holder. I have seen some on laptops that are encased in plastic and have two wires coming out. It can vary a lot as to where in laptops they are situated.
You really need to sort it as apart from being needed for sate/time, it affects the way the laptop remembers the hardware settings.

If you can find a motherboard manual using Google this should give the details, or maybe Advent's website.

Hmm, tried Google and not so easy. You need to identify your motherboard (manufacturer and number) if you want to try to get a manual.

You can do this by downloading:

EVEREST
or it's predecessor:-
AIDA32

Either of these will give stacks of info on your hardware including motherboard information (under Motherboard/Motherboard).

Once you've got that info then this website might be worth a try:-

MOTHERBOARD MANUAL DOWNLOADS

Impossible to tell. It could die now. It could stop tomorrow. It could quit working within 48 hours.....
