Okay I'm having a bit of trouble on understanding these concepts.
ATA/133 vs ATA/100
Controller Transfer Rate 100/66/33
And the whole Front side Bus thing.

But mainly it the drive speed thing.
So, if on my MB specs it say that the conroller is at 100/66/33 and I go out and buy a ATA/133 HD. My HD won't really run at 133 right unless my controller runs at that speed? And if my Ram is something like PC3200 and it's suppose to transfer it at 3.2 Gigabytes per second it that to and from the hard drive? Sorry so many questions. But if someone has some documentation on this subject I will be happy to read it.

Thanks,

If you want to buy a hard drive that is ata133, you will need a ata133 controller card. Just type in ata133 controller card in google and you will learn more about it. Ince your mobo only goes up to 100, you will need a controller card or if you want, you may flash the pc bios (experts only).

RAM is just temporary storage space for programs and the operating system. It really has nothing to do with speed. Get more if you want though, you can never have enough.

No problem with the questions. We are all here to help each other out.

here's some reading.

ATA133

A drive capable of ATA133 running on ATA100 is restricted to 100MB/s data transfer.

And

PC3200

for the same clock(buss speed) you get twice the data transferred

It gets even more confusing when you go with dual channel DDR. in this cans the data transferred id again doubled over the DDR data rate.

BUT -- you need to understand that while the ATA133 data transfer rate (I/O) may appear to be 33% faster than a drive with "only" ATA100, these rates are burst I/O rates, and the actual average I/O for all but the most short data transfers is much less, typically under 100 with both. So, don't think you will be increasing your overall I/O rate by anything near 33% if you get a ATA133 controller.
