I face a very strange problem with my IBM CRT monitor, a thick line appears at the middle of the screen and it seems middle part is folded at the middle line. every object gets near from that line (vertical line) it get shrinked (object's width gets shrinked). I'm sure it's the monitor problem what can I do. Is there other way than give to a professional ?
It's model IBM C170 Flat CRT monitor.
Thanks.

First verify it is actually the monitor, which it sounds like, by connecting the monitor to a different computer. Conversely you could connect a different monitor to that computer. You need to isolate either the monitor or the graphics card/ chip.
If the monitor is faulty I would recommend that you not spend any money fixing an older CRT. If cash is tight you can pick up a used CRT for less than you would spend on repairs.

Thank you, the problem is in the monitor I tried the first step before you tell me, I'm not tight on cash but, I just wanted to save money because, it costs enough.
Thank you again, I will take your advice.

Check with you local thrift store or goodwill. I bought a 17" for one of the grandkids for $5 that was perfect. I think a lot of people are going to the lcd's and giving the older ones away.

LCD is a high quality display but, actually I don't preffer it because, I can't look at it from all angles, some sides of the screen get darker than others but, CRT is visible at any angle you're looking from.
Thanks.

I believe what landon was stating is that you could pick up a used CRT monitor for cheap because most users are migrating to LCDs.

OK, I'll see. I noticed that most of new branded PC's comes with LCD screens so, that's making the CRT cheaper. I got it.
But I'm wondering about the refresh rate of LCD is it good or not more than 60Hz ?

LCD displays can have higher than 60Hz refresh rate but they should be rock solid at 60Hz. You can't compare the refresh rate of an LCD to that of a CRT.
