Hi everyone,

My laptop's left mouse button is damaged. I don't know what happened but now 50% of the time it doesnt recognize that I am clicking. This is very frustrating when you are trying to highlight text and while doing so, your mouse stops and "releases" the click. I hope this is making sense :) Does anyone know what the problem is? Would it be wise to try to take this apart and clean it? If so, how would one do that?

Thanks,

Tara

Yes it is damaged. Its not making contact with the electrical pad underneath teh button. You have to take it apart and fix0r it. I wouldnt do it unless you know what you are doing...you will probably need some really small screw drivers.

There are 10 types of people in the world, those who know binary, and those who don't.

Monk above makes a good point and it is easy to take a mouse apart for cleaning.

There tends to be a screw or screws in the bottom, somtimes under a sticker. However generally the rollers and/or ball are dirty and not much else.

If cleaning fails, I would suspect one of the wires in the cable is damaged. Generally this happens just where it enters the mouses, as this is where most bending occurs. This can be repaired if you do not mind small soldering. However mice are inexpensive, so it may be better to simply replace.

However first borrow a known good mouse for test purposes and prove this is where the fault lies.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

I believe she's talking about a laptop mousepad. There is a ribbon cable that connects the pad to the mainboard. Sometimes it's just that this cable is kinked, other times the mousepad area has to be replaced. Rarely does the motherboard have to replaced. Tell me what brand and model it is and I'll tell you how to take a look.

Hi,

It's a HP Pavilion zt3000. I think if it is just a matter of unscrewing something and reconnecting a wire (no sodering right?) I can do it. Any help would be great!!

Tara
