D drive doesn't recognize blank DVD

Specs: Windows XP
My D drive play the DVD's but of lately when inserting a BLANK DVD in the drive the reply is " please insert a disc into drive D" I have also also initialised the disc with DVD recorder but to no avail. Can you help?

Why this information is not easy to find is beyond me.
Try this:

Device Manager
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
>right click
Primary IDE Channel (I do secondary as well)
Advanced Settings
Transfer Mode
>Change from DMA to PIO

This worked for me both times this problem cropped up.
Don't know why so many "EXPERT" sites never have an answer for this common problem.

Quit telling people to buy new drives when you don't know what's wrong.

There can be more than one reason for that behavior. You seem to be the expert, why not help out Loupy? Ahh, you don't even know how to fix your own issues. Six drives?


Does the drive read DVD disk that already have data on them?

Does the drive read and burn CDR disks?
