I have 2 computers with a firewire card in each machine.I hooked them together with a cable and ran the wizards to get a network going but I neither machine can see the other.I have turned on file and printer sharing on both machines. Will this even work?If so do I need to do something else to get it going?Do I need to get diffent cards to create a network?

You could network them that way, but I'd use ethernet, personally.

The firewire cable you are using is most likely a straight thru cable. I don't even know if there is such a thing as a firewire crossover cable. You need to use a crossover cable or a hub/switch and two straight cables. If you are connected to a broadband network modem then I suggest that you get a router with a built in switch. This will allow your network, both machines to connect indedendantly to the internet and the router also acts as a hardware firewall to protect attacks from outside.
