I have an acer DSV II (i think) 56k modem. win 2k.
If i start the computer and the modem is not turned on, when i try to connect online (after turning modem on **grin**) I get a message 'unable to establish a connection'. Simply, the modem needs to be turned on when computer starts up so that i can use it. When I installed it, I used the standard 56k modem drivers from win! Could this be the prob?

Actually this is normal; Windows 2000 and XP both do this. The solution is simply to remember to turn on the modem before starting your computer. After a while you get used to it.
You can also open the device manager and click click refresh, and it will find the modem.
