crashed hard drive

Specs: vista
Seagate st3500620as(500 gig) has crashed. Firmware hp24.
Can i replace this with a seagate st3500641as-rk or any other 500gig drive? Will firmware be a problem? Thanks.

Are you asking if you can replace the drive or what? If the drive then you can replace with ANY 500GB or even larger drive. The criteria is the hard drive controller, the computer BIOS, and the version of Windows you are using.

What do you mean it crashed? Describe what the problem is.

Is the hard drive properly identified in the POST screens at start up by both the model number and the FULL capacity?

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I wan't clear. I have a hp pavillion a6650f.os vista, 500gig harddrive. Hp tech has determined the hard drive failed. It is inacessible. Hp was giving me a hard time with the replacement. Wanted a credit card I don't have. I was going to purchase a new drive and wondered if the firmware would be a problem. Since I posted this HP has relented and is shipping disk. The Haed drive was a Seagate 500 gig st3500620a8.
