OS: NT Server
CPU/Ram: 450
Comment:

I have NT Server with 450Mhz cpu.
I have several PCs with Win98/95.
I have a network printer connected to server.
Printer is HP LaserJetIII.
When i print from one PC (Win98) the cpu usage on the server is 100%. When i print from others it's not noticible.
I'm printing Packing Slips from some accounting program.

Any ideas why it's a 100%?
thanks

Is the one ("When i print from one PC...")pc the 450MHz? and what processor's and amount of ram do the others have? do they all have the same Lan card? the answer to anyone of these questions will give me something to start from instead of guessing blindly. the one guess I will make is that there could be a difference in the printer port settings (Bottle neck) causing that one CPU to have to work harder just to print.go into control panel/system/device manager/com ports and click properties and the click the port settings tab and tell me what it says in the top drop down box(it should be at the highest Baud Rate setting)

OK, the PC that is taking up cpu on the server has 266Mhz, 64Mb RAM, Win98.
Under Port Settings: Bits per second - 9600 (even though the highest is 921600)
I tried printing from Word and it's the same problem.

All PCs on the network have the same NIC, the server has a better one.
Also all other PCs have about 166-266Mhz and 64-128Mb RAM

thanks for your help

Actually i checked other PCs on the network and it is the same problem with others. Uses 100% of the cpu on the server.

Does it actually slow them down though? when it says CPU usage 100% can you still run a program easily? I would suggest putting the baud rate as high as it goes (921600) then if that does'nt make a difference post back
Hope this helps :-)

Thanks.
Actually, i had to change the Printer memory under Device Option in Printer Properties. Even though the printer doesn't have 5Mb of memory i still set it to that and now the CPU usage is still a 100% when printing but very short period of time, and it prints faster. That is much better and faster than before.

Thanks
