Trying to upgrade my Processor, need to know what processor's my mobo can handle. Mobo is an MSI Athlon motherboard tech specs say "AMD Athlon processor in a 462-pin ZIF Socket A with 133-MHz host bus speed." How do I find out wich processors fit this description?

If it is a genuine MSI MoBo with an Award BIOS then with a BIOS update should support XP2000+, but you will need to check carefully. On the BIOS post screen it will say AWARD etcetc followed by a revision number, it will state MSIxxxxxxxxx, though if it is a OEM MoBo it will not state that...

AIDA32 should give MoBo info....

I don't remember if it says award or not but the computer is from gateway so it's probably OEM. What options do I have if it is OEM?

It's one of the K7T Turbo flavors...They made about 10 of them but it sounds like yours is a made for Gateway board. I think they are now using the bios for my board (K7T Turbo 2 ver 5.0) to cover all the others. They used to list each board by ver. number. Looks like you're going to end up with the 6330v36.exe file but it may not do your particular board much good. It did provide 2600+ support for my board as advertised though.

You need to follow x86's advice and identify that board precisely before you try a bios flash. It easy to trash a board with the wrong bios flash. If it is a Gateway board, I'd contact them first.

Interesting version number and I'd like to hear more.

I need to get to bed but tomorrow I'll get the latest bios from gateway, I believe I currently have bios version p08, will see if there is an upgrade. As for asking gateway about what processors will work for this board, they don't sell processors, which means they can't sell me a processor which means there is no money in helping me. I've noticed that if they can't sell me what I want or I buy something from someone else their tech support people use the "talk to the hand approach.” They also try to blame said hardware for any and all problems on my system after that. I actually had one tell me they couldn’t help me with my speakers not working because I had installed a network card that I had not purchased from them so there was no way for him to know what kind of conflicts it could cause on my system. He didn’t even ask me to check if the !@#$% things where plugged in! Sorry, I kind of got off on a rant their. They gave me the runaround, kept saying things like “Since we don’t sell processor’s by them selves we don’t have information relevant to that in our system” and various other bull.

Gateway's website says the board uses 462-pin ZIF Socket A with 133-MHz host bus speed. Doesn't that mean that any athlon with socket A and FSB of 266 or less will work?
