Can anyone please tell me what kind of temp an AMD Duron @1.9Ghz, should be running at. I'm currently getting 63C when there's no load on the processor, is this normal?

Thanks in advanced for any help.

63C with no load is a little hot. I like to keep my Athlon in the low to mid 40c range. First, make sure your bios is the latest version available and the temp reading are accurate. If they are, make sure your heatsink hasn't collected a lot of dust that is keeping it from working efficiently.

If you can measure case temperature, check it. If it's within five-10 degrees of the cpu temp then you have a case cooling problem--need more fans or whatever.

Room temperature is also a factor. Obviously you can't get the case temperature lower that the temp of the air that's being pulled into the case.

Excellent advice from Zorki1c. 63C is higher than it should be.

The Heatsink is clean, the BIOS was updated about 2 months ago, could i try taking it off and applying some new thermal grease?

I've checked the other fans in the system and they are all working fine.

I'll try some new thermal grease.
