my amd xp 2000+ runs anywhere from 48-54C. im using the original heatsink/amd approved fan that came with it. if i leave it on a lot would running at that temp cut off a large part of the lifespan? my friend said that temp is quite warm and it got me worried, is it really anything to be concerned with?

would it be worth it to upgrade to a volcano 9 sink/fan or another expensive heatsink thats say copper based? anyone whos upgraded so a different thing lemme know if the temp decrease was well worth it.

The temp is SLIGHTLY warm, but well within the guidlines. I run with the fan supplied by AMD for my 1800 temp is steady on 42.

Your cpu will last way longer than its mhz will satisfy you.

Yes a new sink will help, but check to see how much of the problem is case circulation. If your cpu is 52C and you're hoping to cool it using the 48C air inside your case you're fighting a losing battle. Take the cover off and then make sure the case isn't stuck somewhere crowded like a desk cupboard, and check you temps. If they get much better then your problem is circulation. Take some time to rearrange the cables inside your case, and add a case exhaust fan if you have none at the moment.

A cheap way to improve your cpu temp is get this $5 sink and replace the fan with this $5 temperature controlled fan which goes up to 52cfm. It will be loud when you need a lot of cooling and quiet when you don't.

All of this is just for fun though because your cpu is fine at these temps.

That temperature is good for an amd heatsink and fan that came with it. I have the a cooper heatsink and my temperature is a constant 48c on my 2000+. Just do not be alarmed, that is an average temperature for the cpu. Just curious what is the watt on your power supply?
Wow eddie 42C good job on the air circulation in the case.
