Two weeks ago I built a new computer around the Tyan S2095A motherboard, and fortunately everything has been running great. Today, just for fun I ran SiSoft Sandra (version 2002.1.8.59) for diagnostics, and it reported the following temperatures:
Board Temperature - 25.0 C / 77.0 F
CPU Temperature - 83.0 C / 181.4 F
Power/Aux Temperature - 45.0 C / 113.0 F
Then in the summary it gave me a warning
"CPU temperature is too high!"Should I be concerned? The air coming out of the back is quite cool. I even bought the more expensive and larger CPU heatsink and fan.
I would hate to burn out the processor prematurely.
All input and experience is greatly appreciated.

Hopefully sandra is reading the wrong sensor. I'd run sandra again and write down all temps it shows. Then reboot and go straight into bios under PC Health and it will show you the cpu temp and motherboard (system) temp. Compare what the bios says (it will be correct) with what sandra says. Then download speedfan

which will show you three temps and two should be correct and the third one is bogus. Within Configure you can uncheck the bogus one and now you've got a way to show the correct mobo and cpu temp. Hopefully!

After running SpeedFan, I get the following:

Remote temp: 14 CThe BIOS temperature for the CPU is 49 Celsius. So I guess the 85 C is the bogus. Which is my real temperature?

what cpu are you running? 181F.? omg haha jesus! well if that was true then your room would be hot as hell. well one thing i can tell you is p4's should be running at somthing around 80f. give or take i may be off, p4s will burn up alot faster under less temp. athlon XP's however run alot higher and are ok. kind of like american v8 vs import motors ^_^. my friend cant keep his xp1800 under 125F but my 2200 stays 95-103f all teh time somehow heh. wich i found out is pretty damn good.

When you went into bios there should have been a cpu temp and a system temp. Then you boot to windows and run speedfan and the two temps that match up with those two are the real ones and those that are higher or lower are bogus. The speedfan temps may be 1c-2c higher than bios because the system works harder to run windows than it does your bios program. I can't tell from the above what the motherboard temp is and also if the bios said the cpu was 49c then nothing in speedfan is matching up with that either.

The BIOS has only a single temperature display, and that is for the CPU. After a cold start, the BIOS shows a temperature of 40 C. After running for a while it creeps up to 49 C.
The box is very cool, the air coming from the back is very cool and the fan RPM is around 5100 - 5300.
After running very stable for two weeks, I'm puzzled, unless the motherboard sensors are off.

If bios shows one temp then I'd guess there is only one sensor and its for the cpu. That's fine though because out of the last 100 overheating systems you can find, 100 were cpu overheating. We watch the motherboard just for fun, except for overclockers who push 200fsb. They need to watch it too.
If your cpu is 49c and you have decent circulation than everything will feel cool and you have nothing to worry about at all.
