I have a Dell 4600, and I notice lately after the computer has been on for a while or if I do a lot of multi-tasking the fan gets really loud. I have been trying for a really long time to find out my CPU temperature and my fan speeds, but I cannot find software that will dectect either. I tried Speed Fan, but it just tells me the tempertatures of my Hard Drives (which is usually at 90F). I have an intel Pentium 4 with HT technology, there has got to be something out there that will tell me the temp.

Try 'MBProbe' and 'Motherboard Monitor'.

Hi, 3 pin fans plugged into the Motherboard are temperature controlled. They should speed up when things get warmer. Mine usually cycle high to low when everything is right. Mine are not loud at any speed.
Luck, Jim

It may be that the "Built for Dell" motherboard that you have uses a sensor chip that is not recognized by the commonly used progs such as speedfan. Can you boot into bios and see if there is any sign of a "system health" section where temperatures etc are usually displayed? As for the fan noise getting loud and possibly obtrusive, has it been cleaned? maybe it's time to replace it.
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.
