My Cpu is overheating, it has done it before but i fixed it the first time was because it had lots of dust between the fan and heatsink, and the sencond time the bracket that held the cpu heatsink in-place had 2 screws that had broke open (the pieces that held the screws from the heatsink were open from one side), i fixed it by glueing it togheter, and now the third time the glue came off and one side was open again now i fixed it by replacing the screws with 2 ring nuts and 2 screws but now it still keeps on overheating ... i dont know whats the problem but it might be because of the fan or because the CPU is generatiing more heat than it used to be(or i just feel like it), these are the opinions i have and might not be the real problems. But would appreciate any help :)

Its probably because the heatsink is not tight.

Have you put new heatsink compund on the sink?

hi...please do the following:

1. Open the computer
2. Remove heatsink/fan
3. Re-apply thermal compound
4. Attach the heatsink/fan
5. Turn on the computer...

"i evenhave some ice in plastic under the laptop...."

All I can say about that is: ROTFLMAO!!

You have to use the correct amount of thermal paste & it MUST be applied properly, & the heatsink MUST be installed properly. If you get either of them wrong (or both), the CPU will overheat. Interesting that you didn't post the CPU temp...do you know it's overheating or do you just think it's overheating?

When applying the paste on an exposed core CPU, use a tiny dab about the size of a grain of rice, then spread it thinly & evenly over the core only. If you use too much, it prevents the heat from transferring to the heatsink.

Who's angry? I was amused at your "ice bag trick". Nothing like starting off the day with a full belly-laugh. I almost choked on my Cheerios!
