Solved CPU overheating when idle

Specs: Windows 7
Lately, my CPU has been overheating (so far, only a message, no shut-downs). However, this only happens when it's idle. As soon as I start doing something, the temperature drops rapidly. I'm running Win7-64; ASUS M5A97 motherboard; 8 Gig of RAM; and AMD FX6100, Socket AM3+ CPU. I don't use the computer for gaming and it isn't overclocked. I've opened the sensor display and have seen the temp at around 160 degrees F; as soon as I open a program and begin doing work, it'll start going down to around 115 degrees.

When you start doing work on it, the fan kicks in, that's why the temp drops. Seems to me your CPU fan is not operating properly, threshold temperature setting probably too high.
