CPU overhaeting

For some reason my pc keeps shutting down without warning due to overheating. I downloaded Everest Ultimate Edition to find out the temperature of the CPU when i was running programs that needed large amounts of computing power and found that it was dangerously high at around 90*C.

If the CPU fan is running, whoever installed the heatsink thermal compound probably did a crummy job.

Seems alright to me but im no expert. Is there anyway i can fix it or at least check to make sure its working properly?
