I am looking for a for sure answer to what should be a simple question. This Pavillion 8750 was shipped as advertised as a P3 933mhz box (133 fsb X 7). It shipped with 128 PC100 memory. Will not the PC100 choke back the FSB to 100mhz, making this really a 700 mhz machine? If so, its not very ethical of HP!! Without installing PC133,would I be better off running my multiplier at 9X (if possible, haven't been in bios yet) or,if in bios, running the memory at fsb+33? Any thoughts?

You can't change the multiplier on the P3 - it's locked - you're stuck with 7.0x.

Yes, the PC100 will be the choke point in the system. Do you have the option to run the FSB at 133MHz & the RAM at 100MHz?

This system is at least a couple of years old. If you just got it, it must be a used system...how do you know the previous owner didn't upgrade the CPU & RAM?

Get this http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-127.zip

Unzip and double click cpuz, Under CPU tab look at Clocks. It will tell you your Core Speed, Multiplier, FSB and Buss Speed.

Under SPD tab it will give you some info about your memory.

As old as that machine how could you blame HP? It surely didn't come from factory with pc100 on a 933mhz p3. I had a old HP with a 535 celeron which ran at 66mhz fsb that came with pc100 ram. Run CPU-Z and if it's not running at the fsb remove the 128 pc100.
