ordered a cpu fan today, just wondering when u buy a fan will it come with a thermal pad or do i have to get one or buy some gel. and if it doesnt come with a pad, is the pad or gel nesecary? thanks

I assume you mean a fan AND heatsink. Generally they come as a single unit. Most heasinks do come with a thermal pad. However their effectivness can vary. I dab of thermal paste in any case will not do any harm and could do a lot of good.

My heatsink and ans never came with either one. If it doesn't come with either one, DON'T USE YOUR COMPUTER. Thermal paste or pads are VERY neccesary. Without them your CPU will over heat within a few minutes, which could easilyt ruin your CPU.

What you have there is a combined fan and heatsink. So my first post applies. Get yourself some thermal paste to be on the safe side.

Don't use `both' the pad and thermal paste. Clean up the CPU before installing the heatsink/fan.
