i have the standard fan that came with my e7300. is there a lowest speed the fan should not go below?
i ask because i just installed some software that came with my foxconn motherboard which handles all the cpu frequency, voltage, ram frequency, cpu fan speed etc. it does this automatically depending on the load the computer is under.
anyhow, when i first installed it i got an alarm because the cpu fan speed had fallen below 1000rpm... which was the default lowest limit. the computer was idling and the temp was 33C.
how low should i set the cpu fan speed alarm and is there any danger for the fan if it falls too low?

Are you saying that 1000rpm was the default lowest speed in the bios ? If not, you could lower it somewhat. I have a motherboard where the default lowest speed is 300 rpm. If you have cpu fan speed control enabled, the fan will spin faster than the lower limit if necessary. You could also just disable cpu fan speed control .

the 1000 rpm was the lowest limit set by the software before the alarm sounded. since at idle the cpu fan was only doing 900 rpm the alarm went off.
i could always lower the alarm limit but was wondering why the default limit was set so high.
