Solved CPU Fan Runs Only During BIOS (POST)

Ibm / S50 8086-24u

Specs: LinuxMint 9.0, Lenovo
The CPU fan in my Thinkpad R50e has suddenly changed habits. It used to run at max speed during POST, then turn on 5 or 10 minutes later when the CPU warmed up.
Now, it seems to run only during POST. 5 or 10 minutes later I hear a clicking sound but the CPU fan does not turn on. I disassembled the laptop and examined the fan; there are no obstructions, and the blades turn freely. Also, there are no error messages generated.
Any suggestions appreciated.

It could be just running slower and quieter than you realize. Install Speedfan or HWmonitor and monitor your temperatures, if they remain normal then you are fine.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Thanks, Fingers. BTW, do Speedfan and HWmonitor run under Linux?

In Linux Mint are you using the Gnome Desktop, if so lmsensors setup with gnome's sensors-applet works similar to speedfan.

imsensors may be in Synaptic Package Manger !

Googling is quicker than waiting for an answer....

Thanks, Jolicloud. This is encouraging. I run the default desktop in LinuxMint, whatever that is.
