i just bought a coolermaster fan (the DP5-6I31-0L model, if that matters), and it's running twice as fast as it's rated. it's supposed to run at 3500 RPM, but it's running b/ween 7000 and 7650. anyone know what's going on? my mobo is the shuttle AK31 with the via kt266a chipset, running an athlon XP 1800+. i know the monitor on the CPU is working properly, because two other fans i have read just fine in the BIOS. thanks to anyone who can help me :)

besides maybe dereasing length of useage, having it run at that speed will actually be better, more rpm = more cfm = more cooling. but, 7000rpm? how did you measure this?

the internal fan monitor read the speed for me. you can look at it through the bios. even if i didn't have that, the extremely loud noise coming from the HSF was a dead giveaway for a malfunctioning fan

That is very strange. My fan runs almost 8000rpm, but of course it's supposed to. The only thing I know of that speeds up fans is having two of them next to each other. That's probably not an issue though. Hmph.

it dosen't matter wat it speed is really cuase the faster trhe better and unlese ur a freak with having things working pefectly i dosen't matter!!!
there are a number of thing sthat could make it rev faster ect....really the only things that would be correct are the fan could be stuffed in it's voltage resistance basically it's been mucked up by a small amount in the making so one or so resistors or capacitators havebeen dogie but it dosen't matter mate !!!
the faster the fans the better listen to this for some funny sh@t i'm running windows xp on a pentium 2 233mmx that's right wat u heard was not a lie! windows xp running on a pentium2 233mmxwow man thats cool!!!!! so don't worr7y bout it buddie just leave it!
