OS: win xp pro
CPU/Ram: amd 2400+ 266fb/768 pc210
Comment:

I just purchased an Asus Terminator A7VT barebone system.

Specs
HD-120 gb western digital 7200 rpm
CPU/Heatsink - amd 2200+ on a 2600+ heatsink
Graphics - radeon 9000 128mb
Ram - 512mb pc 3200

For some reason the cpu temp on my system goes form 37 C to between 50-54 C in about 10 min and the motherboard temp reached an all time high(I have never experianced this before in the past) to about 60 Celcius. I thought maybe its b/c its a very small case so I decided to take side panels off and still the same temperature readings occured.

Either 1. Asus probe is wrong
2. My bios are wrong
3. I didnt put enought thermal paste
4. Something is wrong with the cpu
5. other

Is it common for a computer to do this. My other pc which has a amd 2400+, radeo 9800, 40 gb, and 512 pc 2700 runs about the usual cpu 41 C and mobo like 38 C.

If you guys need any additional information just post it

-Asus Probe displays the same information as shown in BIOS. I highly doubt this is your problem.

"3. I didnt put enought thermal paste"
Ahhhh... the thermal paste problem again. You should never put alot of paste. The layer should be as thin as possible.
There's a link where you can read up on applying grease: http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm

4. Something is wrong with the cpu.
That temp is in my opinion normal for your CPU. Read this article: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/athlon-xp-2200.html
It states 53C @idle and 61C @load.
