Comment:

help! i recently bought a brand new case with a 400 watt power supply, a Soyo SY-I875P Dragon 2 Black Edition mobo, 512 mbs of DDR 333 ram, a Xabre AG200 card(dont remember the chipset), P4 2.4B ghz w/o HT, and a firewire PCI card. when i screwed in the mobo and put in the CPU and Ram, and plugged in the power supply and switches/LED's( im pretty sure i plugged them in correctly), as soon as i
turned on the power supply there was a high-pitched tone, and when i pressed the power button nothing happened. i read an earlier post and they suggested that the mobo might be screwed on too tight, but i didnt screw it in all the way, just enough to hold it in place securely. we are going to replace the power supply, but it will take probably about a week. does anyone know any reasons why this might be happening and some possible solutions?
thanks in advance!

Memory, CPU or graphics card not seated propperly? If you've got more than one stick of ram, try them independently and make sure that they start in slot 1, then slot 3, etc. Remove the firewire card and any cards that you dont need to make the computer start (so that you can see at least the barebones work).

no theres only one stick of ram and i tested it with only the CPU, mobo and ram installed. i dont really care about replacing it because its still under warranty, but im building this pc on a timeframe and i dont really want to wait 1 to 2 weeks for another psu

also, the power supply never started up at all. the psu fan just sits there...never started, not once. im pretty sure its the power supply. also the green light which signifies a standby voltage of 5v was NOT on. so if it isnt the power supply then i dont know what it could be. thanks again for all your help.

Why don't you try to borrow another power supply from another pc or your friend to try it out since you are pretty sure that the fault come from the PS..

I don't think it's the PSU. Like DAS said, reseating some components may fix the squeal. Also check that all the front panel connectors are plugged in properly.
