I have a computer that had a corrupted user profile. Windows created a temp user profile to log on with. The obvious thing to do would be to go into Control Panel and create a new user profile. When I go to user accounts to make another account and profile, when it get to the window to name the new account, it does accept any text. I can't type in the box. The same thing applies if I try the same thing, but in Safe Mode. I can't type in the field to enter a name. What is also interesting is that, if I got to START > RUN ... I can't type in the RUN field box either. BUT when I log into the system using the Guest account, I can type with no problem in the applications. Its just in the windows input window fields that I can't type. Anyd Ideas?

Are you trying to create a new user profile, while in the corrupted profile? Login as administrator to do that. Reset the administrator password in computer management, users & groups, users if you don't know it.

It will not accept text in the "create new account" text box even as adminstrator.

Then it's more than a profile that's infected. Download, update & run anti malware from malwarebytes.org

enter in safe mode by pressing f8 after the boot screen.

then enter in the administrator account profile.

then create an appropriate account.

and make sure to run malware scan as mentioned above by guapo.

The malware program has been run on it all week before this profile issue and removed any potential issues. The pc was fine after that. Profile issue started friday.

I think some are missing a key point. I can log into the system under safe mode as Adminstrator. DONE THAT.
BUT when I attempt to type in the form box to create the new account, nothing will type, they cursor just blinks, it won't accept keystrokes...

Thanks for all your replies.

The keyboard works in all other application. Its only where there is a windows input field, that nothing will type.

For instance, I can log in under the guest account and use all applications with no problem. (But of course under the guest account you cant create a new user account). I can log in as Administrator and go to control panel > user accounts, click to create a new user, but when it comes to type in the field that you want name the new user, nothing happens.

If I go to START > RUN ... in the RUN field box, it will not accept text.

Running anti malware a week ago doesn't count for today. Anything could have happened since then.

I didnt say a week ago. I said "all week." Virus protection was run on monday, tuesday, wednesday, and thursday, to be on the look out for conflicker, in a addition to a full spyware scan.

I still say it's more than a corrupt profile. Run Hijack This & post the log.

Also, see what's lurking in msconfig under the startup tab & try safe mode.

Hijack This is my last suggestion. Is there any reason why you think you shouldn't run it?
