Comment:

I just opened my case and noticed the 7 transistors surrounding the CPU were corroding on the tops.
What does this mean?
Thanks

They either got moisture on them or they maybe got a surge and kinda poped, which is a very bad thing.

Either way, it isn't good.

XxxFrancis is correct.

If these are smallish barrel shaped objects then they are capacitors and usually 'pop'or ooze when they get a surge from the power supply. This means that your power supply is probably going.

I think you may ne looking at replacing both the motherboard and the power supply.

Yeah they are little barrels of ooze.
The thing is I just bought my PSU a few months back so i dont see how it could have caused it.
Anyways thanks for posting.

A couple of years ago there were a spate of motherboards manufactured with below standard capacitors that would fail very early in their life.

Abit is the only company that have admitted a the problem up to now and the is legal action going on in the US to claim compensation.

Check with the manufactures. You may have one of those.

Thanks Stuart for the article. It was quite informative.
I went over to the Via Arena forums and did some more research and found that others were having the same problem but with different boards.
I'm not gonna bother trying to get a replacement because its been almost 3 years since I bought it and I dont want to go without a PC for 2 months.
I'm just gonna keep this and hope I can save up for a new one before this one dies.
Thanks again guys!

Don't run that MBoard. At best you will end up with a corrupted Harddrive. At worst you may blow other components. As was already stated above the cpacitors are defective. Eventually you computer will fail to start but by then you may have other damage, as mentioned. This was caused by an incomplete stolen recipe for the electrolyte inside the capacitors. I have first hand experience with the results of this with two different boards. Do yourself a favor and replace the board. BTW this started appearing at least two years ago. Abits solution is a joke. I have a SLOT A MB that I no longer even have the processor for and NOW they agree to fix the MB. I want cash.
