Hello.
I am not sure when this started, but it worked properly a couple months ago for sure, not positive since though.
I have 2 hard drives (C: & D:) connected using ATA133 if I remember right (older custom built). If I try copying a file such as an mp3 from my D; drive, it takes 30-60 seconds to copy it. It doesn't matter if I am copying from D: to C: or from D:\xxxx to D:\yyyy. After I have copied it once and delete it, it copies instantly, I'm assuming its just in the cache.
If I copy from C: to D:, it is instant as it should be.
I ran a disk check and it came up clean on D:, and I don't hear any abnormal noises or anything (I used to own a computer repair shop and am familiar with noises that HD's make when they're quickly dying). I am running XP Home w/ all updates, and have no viruses or spyware that can be found. Disk Defrag said it doesn't need to be defragged but I'll do it anyways next time I'm away for a while. Also, the drive is ~43 gigs and has 14.5 gigs free. There are no problems in device manager as well.
Is it probably on its last leg, or does anyone have any suggestions?
Thx in advance.

"I ran a disk check..."
Which one?
You should run the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostics on it.Make sure D is running in a mode other than PIO. If it isn't, try to reset it.
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devic...That drive probably requires an 80 wire data cable if it is capable of UDMA66 or greater.
If that's true, running it on a 40 wire data cable will probably cause the mboard and Windows to run it a lot slower than it is capable of.
If it requires and is already connected to an 80 wire data cable, try another data cable.

Lets face it they all make hard funny sounds when they dying especially when theres a few of them in uniform, they think there really tough then, one on one they silent thats what my 42 years have taught me
