So I got a SATA HDD, but I can't install windows XP on it because it doesn't recognize the harddrive. I have tried pressing F6 DUring installation and installed the drivers that way, but it still did not recognize it. So i took another Ultra ATA HD and installed windows on it...and within windows XP, I have created a Volume on my SATA hard drive. Windows XP installation still doesn't recognize the SATA drive. What I would like to do, is copy my OS from my Ultra ATA hard drive as an image to the SATA HDD, and hopefully then I can boot from the SATA drive.

How do i copy my C: drive (with windows XP on it) to my SATA F: drive as an image?

any other ideas how i can get windows XP on my 200GB sata drive are welcome.

How did you install the drivers when you hit F6? Does the drive show in the BIOS? If not, you will never get windows to see it. Are you using the FIRST SATA controller? I think that is necessary. If the drive is showing in the BIOS you need to set the SATA 0 as the first harddrive in the boot order. Place floppy and then CD ahead of it. If you get it to work then you still have to deal with the issue of the 137GB barrier. I recently read something about disk imaging programs not working with SATA drives. If the drive is seen in the BIOS I suggest that you break it in half. You should be able to do that with the disk utility that came with the drive. If not, there are other ways. Then XP can see the entire 200GB as two partitions. Post back and say if the drive shows up in the BIOS or POST screens.

To copy the image to the other HDD you will need Ghost.exe on a floppy disk.
You can use that to image the drive.

I read recently where imaging software is having difficulty accessing SATA harddrives. I suggest you verify compatibility prior to attempting imaging from IDE to SATA.

I'm having the same problem but mine is a little different. I had my SATA hard drive installed and working before, and I had put windows xp on it but it never showed up in the BIOS before. I was being a dumbass and put in my new video card without taking off the old drivers first, so I messed up some of the windows files, now when I go to repair those files, I put in the drivers disk and do everthing the same as before, but the windows installation won't recognize the damn hard drive. The hard drive shows up in the post screen and everthing but I go to install the drivers for the windows installation and it says there is no mass storage device detected. I've tried data lifeguard tools (its a western digital hard drive tool) and that won't find it using my 15gig that I am on right now, and I've tried making this a primary and the SATA a slave, but I'm not completely sure on how to do that. Any suggestions on fixing it would be appreciated.
