Got a Toshiba recovery disk w/ Vista, which will boot my Satellite P200-ST6061. This isn't a Vista installation disk, but a recovery disk (image).
Burned a copy of the bootable disk, verified the burn w/ Nero.
The burned copy won't boot the laptop. Is there a common reason(s) why it wouldn't? Remember, this isn't a MS Vista installation disk.
Before burning, copied the files to my HDD and modified one line in the Install.ini file. The Readme file from Toshiba says if the value for "CustomSystemInstallation=1," then "creating & installing a custom install is supported," using the recovery disk. The orig line was "CustomSystemInstallation=0".
Doubt changing that one value in the Install.ini file causes it not to boot from burned copy - could be wrong.
I didn't choose the option to "finalize" the disk (or make single session) before burning. Could that be it?Any ideas? Thanks.

You already have Toshiba Recovery DVD. Why do you want to copy it? If you are afraid of losing the original DVDs you can always get another one through a service provider. To find Toshiba service provider near you, look HERE.
Curious - are you also known as phkhgh who posted exactly the same question at Techspot Forum, Neowin Forum, and
PCGuide Forum today?I could be wrong but my thinking is that you cannot copy Toshiba recovery dvds. I believe they may have engineered their machines to "sense" and boot only to the original DVDs that came with it.
BTW have you thought of asking the same question at Toshiba's own Satellite P-Series Forum HERE?

Also, the Readme file you mentioned does not pertain to making a copy of the recovery DVD. It is irrelevant to what you are trying to do.

**Before burning, copied the files to my HDD and modified one line in the Install.ini file.**
why don't you just save an image of the disc to your HD and then Burn it to CD? That way you shouldn't have to alter any files. This works with Sonic Record Now.
Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

The modification of install.ini have nothing to do with ur problem. the boot sector of the CDROM is in another area and have to be copy exactly as the original to work (in other words, have to be "cloned").
to do that U have to use the "copy disk" option in the nero menu to get an exact copy of the disk.
if it doesn´t work try to use a cloning disks program like the cloneDVD.
the original recovery disk of my laptop was damaged by one of my kids, I make a clone of this and is working perfectly, so I don´t thing there ins any special copy protection on ur original disk

Gee, I'm getting some weird vibes from some replies here. Lighten up a little, guys. I'm just a po' boy.:)
No, of course you're allowed to make a backup copy of a program (even recovery disk).
The reason I wanted to modify the install.ini file was because the readme file mentioned different values (0 or 1) on a particular line, allowing custom installs, or not. Also, Toshiba tech said some customers have disks allowing custom installs, & some don't.
There's nothing "funny" or illegal about what I'm trying to do.
