I am at my wits end regarding this problem; every single program on my computer, in a sort of strange domino effect, tends to lock up despite there being ample resources to keep them going. Usually this results in my most-used apps (eg: Firefox, Media Player, Live Messenger, Task Manager, and even Explorer) freezing, without any way to restart them (Ctrl+Alt+Del takes a hideously long time to show up no matter what OS I use) but now it's resulting in horribly long boot times (as in, upwards of 5 minutes) and sometimes failure to boot at all.
This may seem like a software issue, but the thing is that I have a multi-boot configuration on my system, and this occurs on every single OS I try (and even on XP64, I got a message telling me part of my registry had been corrupted). I at first thought it was a virus, but I can't for the life of me think of a virus that could strike all of my OSes at once, so I'm assuming it's a hardware issue.
I've tried testing my RAM using memtest86 off the Ubuntu CD, and it came up with no errors that I could see, and while the temperature is higher than normal (around 50-60 celsius) this happens even when the temperatures are only around 20-30 or so.
I'm at my wit's end. So, please, kind people of Computing.net, I beg of you; does anyone know how this problem could be fixed?
