I need some help please.
Just purchased a DELL PC and was hoping to use my old monitor which is a Packard Bell Slimview530. Unfortunately the connector on the Packard Monitor is not like any other monitor connector. Usually I would use the blue connector at the rear to connect my VGA 15 pin monitor plug.
But this connector is totally different.
It is about an inch long, has two push in sides (this is to hold it in place and probably takes the place of screws) It is same size D shaped piece of metal (like the normal connector)but instead of having the 14 pins this has a small strip with two rows of very small holes, which I do not think are used but above and below this strip and metal connectors.
I know I probably have not explained my self very well, but I wonder whether anyone can advise me if there are such things to convert this connection to the standard VGA 15 pin male monitor connection.

Yup, what you have sounds like a DVI port. You just need a DVI to VGA adapter.

So is a DVI to VGA adapter a standard product I can purchase? ( I am in London, UK)

Just looked at some pictures and unfortunately the connection looks different. The VGA bit is OK, but the monitor connection is different. I am looking to see if I can see one how mine looks

Thanks for that, I am not certain that the connector on the monitor lead will work with that.
I think it would be called a male connection. Inside the D shaped metal it has a very thin white strip about the size of the strip in a USB socket where u plug in. In this strip it has two rows with about 12 very small holes in each row. ( As far as I know nothing plugs into these holes) Around this strip are small connectors

Years ago I learned that PB monitors are not designed for use with IBM-compatible systems. The connector is totally different. Based on your description of the problem above, I think this still hold true even to date.

I should have included my long-held belief that PB systems is neither Mac nor IBM Compatible but simply PB.

On the spec it has 1 VGA port and

Don't give up yet - if your vid card has DVI output, there are DVI to DFP(MDR20) adapters and cables. Being in U.S., cannot help much with locating a supplier.

I still cannot see how it will help.
The connector on the Monitor seems to be not compatable with any other convertor.
I looked here http://www.lindy.com/uk/productfolder/04/41221/index.php
But cant see how I can connect the monitor plug

Sounds like your monitor uses the older DFP connection. Havn't seen anyway to convert DFP to VGA. "Zenith" is right your only choice is to have a DVI port on the computer then convert it to DFP, or upgrade to a monitor with VGA.
