Hi, I want to use my PC to Access/work on an IBM Laptop HDD. I have heard that it is possible to connect the two. Can anyone tell me what the Cable that I need is called, if anything and where I may be able to purchase one and allso if I need any Software or anything else besides a simple cable to be able to do this?

Cheers

your post is a little confusing. Are you trying to hook up a laptop hard drive to a desktop computer? If so, here's your answer.

Thank you very much Tom. Yes, you understood me right, that is what I need.

But is there a cable or adapter or any means that you know of, where I can connect 2 HDD's directly to my Laptop. I don't mean permanently, as there is no space in the Laptop to do this but just to transfer data from one to the other via the Laptop!
So even if I had a long IDE cable with 2 connectors that hang’s outside of the machine would suffice. Although I cannot see any way to jumper the HDD's as either Master or Slave, so I assume IF it is possible that would be governed by the cable, if you know what I mean!

Anyway, you have helped me out with your reply, even if you cannot help me with this. Thank you.

I haven't seen one for hooking up desktop hard drives to a laptop, but that doesn't mean they don't exsist. I'll look around and let you know if I find any.

Hey, here's an idea. You can get IDE to USB adaptors. This might be your best bet.

Here's a link to get you started but you might want to do a Google search. I tried IDE to USB and got tons of hits.
