What's the best way to connect me laptop to my PC? I want to install a more recent version of windows on the laptop but it doens't have a CD ROM, so was hoping to be able to use the CD ROM and my PC.
The laptop is currently configured for my old works network on Win 2000. It has a serial, parallel and usb port.

Get a cross over cable to connect the two machines together. Make sure both machines are in the same workgroup and are logged on with the same use name and password.
Once you are happy you can see both machines, copy the W2K CD from the PC to the lap top. Then install it via dos. You'll need to google for full instructions to be able to do this....sorry I dont have exact details to hand.
I tried lots of ways to install from the PC's CD rom but gave up, unless anyone else has experiance with this?
