First questions is... Do you have a dialup FAX modem. Fax doesn't work with broadband.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!
Sorry, I do not check for private messages

Ham is correct. You require a modem that supports fax.

Generally dial up modems (int + ext) support various communications protocols such as Vnn, Viewdata and Fax etc.

Bear in mind you have to leave your pc on in order to recieve incoming faxes as they are sent.

I used an internal Zoom modem with great success and have no hesitation in recommending.

With a normal fax machine, junk faxes can generate reams of print, using large quantities of consumables at great cost.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

The only way to soft proof your faxes is if you set up your computer as the fax machine. You might be able to connect your fax machine to your computer to use for the actual printed output. But without knowing the specs and capabilities of your fax machine I don't know if it can.

I want something like I can view fax content in PC before it goes to actual FAX machine.

Might Fax has been an excellent solution for me for $20 from RKS software.

You can preview and delete junk faxes or print the ones you want, use it to fax out even employing your scanner or multi function printer, or continue to use your fax machine. The quality is much better sending and receiving with this however. It installs like a printer driver, so at print time you can choose your printer or send by fax.

Again, it is easy to use and has been the best $20 I have spent on software in some time! You can try it for free as well.

Generally speaking, stand alone fax machines cannot be connected to a PC. They print as each page is received and usually only have an input buffer large enough to accommodate one page. As page is received and printed, the buffer is cleared ready for the next page.

Unless the fax machine was designed to be connected to a PC from the outset there is nothing you can do, except use a fax modem.

3Comm/US Robotics modems can be set up to receive Fax and Voice messages while the computer is turned off, but they do tend to be a little more expensive. That is your best solution if the expense can be endured.
