It`s me again.I bought a thermaltake extreme volcano 12,and it dropped my temps from 54c at idle to 45c idle,and my games 64c,to 55c..This heatsink/fan kicks bootie...lol...
I have 1 more problem to go,and i hope you guys can help me?My system keeps resetting itself when i turn off the pc,and my clock keeps resetting. So i thought it was the battery,so i went out and bought a new one and installed it,and found out my system is doing the same thing after i bought a new battery. Thanks for the help!!!!!

Take a look at the power management options in the BIOS and check the settings as I had same problem and tracked it down to one of the settings.
Possible that the restart is stopping the a save of the settings for your clock.
P.S. my problem was related to PME event wake up in the BIOS

I had the same problem on a comp i built. It restarted even with an awesome processor fan and heatsink. turns out it I put the case fans backwards. So i switched around the fans and put in a blower for better airflow and it has not restarted since. It even keeps the correct time now.

tony,
I find it hard to believe a backwards case fan has anything to do with keeping the correct time...
LUKE,
Go to System Properties & click on the Advanced tab, look for "Startup & Recovery" & click on "Settings"...then go down to "System Failure" & make sure the box for "Automatically Restart" is not checked. That doesn't explain your problem though, but it should stop the reboots. Your CPU temp is not the prob (& probably wasn't before)...you apparently have something else going on...possibly a weak PSU or bad RAM?

I looked at my settings through my manual and they seem good.
Jam,my auto restart box WAS checked marked,so i unchecked it,but my clock keeps changing,i have to keep setting the clock to the right time, and if i turn off my pc for example,.. at night i turn off my pc complety, and when i restart it in the morning, when bios comes up,i have to set the cpu settings ,and fsb settings everytime my pc is turned off,and turned back on.It does this too when i place the pc in stand by mode.If this is a memory problem,i have heard of memtest, but i have never used it.And if this is a psu problem, how do you tell?My psu unit is a okia 420 power supply brand new,is this enought power for my system?.My ram is also brand new.
Here is my system specs if this helps too see if my power supply is enough to run my system.
Asus a7v266-a/aa mobo
athlon xp 2400 cpu
60gb maxtor hdd
altec lansing speakers
52x32x52 cd burner
ati 128 video card
Extreme volcano heat/fan
Creative soundblaster live
1 stick of 512mb kingston ram
lexmark printer.

heat. i'm saying i had a heat problem, the case had no airflow so it heated up and would shut off (not restart)or keep the correct time after a while of playing games. it wasn't a mem problem,it always had the same RAM. like i said the comp runs totally fine now just need MORE RAM.
oh and make sure ur optimized defaults are loaded in the bios as well. like antoeknee said his problem was related to a bios setting.
here's the specs for that overheated comp
Soyo KT-400 Dragon Lite
athlon xp 2600
40 gb hdd
ati radeon 9700 pro
thermaltake tr2 m2 cru fan+HS
1 stick 512 mb PC2700 ram
500w PSU
