Conexant AMC audio suddenly staticy

I had some Malware removed by a friend yesterday who works in technical support. As soon as he left I started working on some music, and everything sounds like ASS. I'm pretty sure it's not the jack, because of the way it stutters and jumps and gets even crappier if I crank the volume. I've double checked all my volume settings and downloaded the most recent Conexant drivers... I'm thinking he may have deleted an important sound file or something, like with Hijack This? Any ideas on how I can check/repair my sound?
