I put the side of my pc back on today for the first time since my upgrade of motherboard, cpu, ram and gfx card (which I did about 3 weeks ago lol).

After doing this the temps in the pc went up quite dramatically. The CPU used to idle at 42 with the side off, now it idles at 55ish. When playing games the hottest its been is 65 degrees.

The graphics card also gets very hot during games. The most I have seen it today is 80 degrees. These results are after playing farcry for about 10 minutes.

Would you say these temps are too high, and are they likely to be hazadous?

ps, the graphics card is a geforce 6800GT

You should work on getting your temps down. How may fans do you have in it? And where do you have them at? I have a barton 3000 OC'ed to 2.45 and my system temp is 35c and my cpu temp is idle at 39c, 46c under load. I have a 120mm in front of my case and two 80mm in the back.

One on gpu (stock)
One on NB (stock)
One front intake 80mm
One rear exhaust 80mm

Just another thought. Did you put any thermal grease between the cpu and heatsink??

This sort of increase in temps would suggest an airflow problem. The most common cause is IDE cables. Tidying them up should cause temps to drop.

Good thought, Rimfire. I use the round cables in mine

Take a close look at the front near the 80mm fan. How does cool air get in? It it through a small slot on the bottom? If so, this much to common "vacuum cleaner" arrangement is often at fault.

If configured this way, here are some things you can check:

• Insure the fan is blowing into the case.
• Is any front usb cabling blocking airflow?
• Don't sit it directly on carpet.
• What does the metal stamping where the case fans mount look like? Nice big open slots or a bunch of tiny holes?
• Do you have room to mount a 120mm fan or an additional 80mm in the front? You'll see another set of fan mount holes outside the ones you currently use to mount the 80mm fan for a 120mm or a space for an additional 80mm right next to the installed fan.

The model of case you have might be a help to us too.

The case is a cheap £12.99 one from ebuyer (with psu, but I replaced it)

Only room for 1 fan at the front, just a bunch of holes for the guard...
