Hi everyone. I'm making a computer for my mom the motherboard and CPU has not arrived yet so today i was going to take the Hard drive and hook it up to my computer to get it ready. My case is open so to save time all i did was unplug all my other harddrives and plug in this one (it was laid on an angle if that matters) when i turned on the computer it turned on then turned off RIGHT away (funny smell too but not sure if its linked) now i see a brown light on the board but the computer will not turn on. i turned off and on the powersupply still no luck. nothing has moved so i don't think anything is loose PLEASE HELP ME NOW!!! my sanity relies on it.

possible blown PS.
BTW, if your installing XP and the hardware is a lot different, what you're doing won't work.

i'm installing 98 and the hardware is almost identical. I'll try a different powersupply. But more suggestions until i reply back would be helpful.

could be ram, cpu, mobo, pci card, or any other thing. SInce you have your mothers computer you are building, and don't know what tyhe cause is, try swapping out parts until you find which it is. But first get rid of all the unnecessary PCI cards to eliminate any of them.
