Computer Won't Switch On But CPU Light Is On

September 3, 2010 at 01:13:38
Specs: Linux i686, 2.8 Ghz P4
I recently changed the power cable to my cpu and a flash of white light came from the back of the pc as soon as I switched on the mains, since then it wont turn on although the light on the motherboard indicates on.

Initially i thought the power supply must have been fried but it worked just fine when I tried it on different motherboard. I also tried shorting the power switch contacts on the motherboard to rule out the possibility of a faulty power switch.

I dont know whether the motherboard light would turn on if it was fried, hopefully not. Are there any other possibilities or solutions?

Since the motherboard performs many functions, even if the light comes on, you could have fried other functions. A flash of white light is never a good thing, unless you're dying. Then you might be on to something.
