Specs: Windows 7
I have two sticks of 512 mb ram. Both work alone in any of 4 slots. But no matter the configuration of anything, when both cards are in, the computer turns on but there's no beep and nothing comes on the screen.

That should tell you that both sticks are good, but not compatible together. Maybe different voltages etc. It's essential to run identical sticks when pairing up. Look at the specs of each stick and match them up.

Much of the RAM sold today as high performance requires non standard voltages. The stick inserted into the first slot will determine what voltage is sent to ALL the slots.

You could try installing one at a time and then enter the BIOS (setup) screens and see what the voltage is set at. Repeat for each stick.
