My computer wont start up anymore. I took out my second harddrive earlier today and i had to unscrew it and all. When i put it back in it wouldnt start up anymore. I check all the connections and everything seems to be plugged in. The harddrives start and all the cd drives are working. When i start it up it makes about 5 beeps and then again 5 beeps. The monitor does not get any signal. I tried booting without the harddrives and all but either way it always does the same. Thanks for any help in advance.

Check and see if maybe you knocked some of your Ram loose when you took out hardrive.

thanks for the fast reply it seems as if the ram is perfectly fine. it does not seem as if it loose or anything. But what is funny is that after checking all connections and everything over and over again it still wont start it up but it makes a different sound now. it only beebs about 7 or 8 times once and not twice likie before. I dont know what to do....

I had the same problem and it was a faulty motherboard. Maybe you have statisised yours though?

You need to test each part individually. So you can narrow down the problem. It obviously isnt the hard drive. Next thing to try would be your video card.

Good luck!

Do some research on POST beep codes. The code tells you the problem but you need to know your BIOS version to find out the correct explanation of the code you are getting.

Yes, we need to know your BIOS info. But, looking in my Beep code list, for AMI, 5 beeps means dead cpu. Seven or eight beeps has to do with memory or MB. Break down to the minimum: PS, memory, cpu and video. Make sure EVERYTHING is properly seated. Reseat, if necessary. Don't rule out anything, even the PSU. Take it slow, try replacements for the above.

I am going through the exact same process on a system right now. I just ordered a new CPU, as I didn't have a spare to try. It's a very common problem, often caused by some cable/switch/jumper being knocked out or put in wrong. Don't give up. :)

Disconnect everything from the motherboard and unplug all cards including your memory chips except the main power connector, then turn it on see if you get any beeps.

If you do not get any, start connecting things back one @ a time and turn on the PC after every component you plug in till you get the beep, this will point you in the right direction.
