When I did a defrag for my system, it froze up.

Here is what I did:

I shutdown the system, took out the cmos battery to help refresh the system settings (Someone from a forum told me to try that) and now anytime I boot up the system,

This is what happens:

-I hear the Harddrive start as usual.
-Lights on the keyboard flash once as usual. I think.
-I don’t hear any beeps. Is that a good sign?
-The screen never changes.

One thing that I have noticed is that before I even plug in my monitor to the video card the light on the monitor is green, but then as soon as I plug in the monitor to the video card it turns orange. This is the colour it always turns when the monitor turns itself off from the power saving settings or when it the system goes on standby???

It almost seems like my video card is pooched, but how would taking out the CMOS Battery affect that???

Please help.

I’ve been looking on the web for weeks and I can’t find anything for correcting my problem.

Well you said that you didn't hear any beeps, which is not a good sign. It should beep once for normal, showing that the POST has completed successfully. So it's not even reaching that stage, which it has to. Make sure that when you take the battery out, you leave it out for a sufficient amount of time so all the power can dissipate. Try replacing it after 10 minutes. Then see what happens.

Did it ever run after the defrag freeze? If not, it was at that point that the system died. You could have a bad power supply, motherboard/CPU or several other things. Removing the battery probably had nothing to do with it.

If you would like to try and fix it yourself, you might want to do a Google search for PC troubleshooting or post back for suggestions.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!!!
