computer won't start, no post

Specs: Windows Vista/XP
I've got an nForce 780i SLI motherboard with 2 EVGA 9800s and a core 2 duo cpu with 8GB of ram.

So here's what happened: a couple weeks ago I put XP on my second hard drive, and it worked fine for a couple days. Then I went to turn it on, and the fans and lights come on, but nothing happened. I took it apart and tried using different video cards and power supplies, but no change. I decided to test the RAM today, so I tried it once more with the cpu, ram, and a video card in and it started up normally. So I hooked the hard drives up, and it went right to XP, which it shouldn't have done but oh well, and after shutting it down it is doing the same thing again. Any ideas as to how to get it to start again? Also I am pretty sure I changed some video settings the last time I was in XP before it stopped working the first time.

After waiting for about an hour, I turned it on again without changing anything and it started up fine, so it must be a hardware problem since my XP hard drive wasn't even plugged in. Any ideas as to what would cause it to do this?
