I know that it's an old computer and I should probably get a new one, but my computer doesn't do anything when I press the power button. I've checked all the cables, still no result. The computer is near 7 years old now and is running an Intel AL440LX MoBo, with Win 95 OS 2 and 96Mb of RAM. I've tried removing the battery as suggested on their technical support but still to no avail. When I plugged it back in after a couple of days, the PSU fan rotated for about half a second then nothing. Anyone got any ideas?

Power Supply is likely culprit. Easy to replace and cheap.

That could be a mother board problem also. To check the power supply unplug the power connector (which I believe is the standard ATX 20 pin plug for this system) to the motherboard and place a jumper between pins 14 and 15 and plug the ps up. If it runs there is probably no problem with the power supply. Don't let it run but a few seconds and then unplug. Could damage the ps if let run an extended period.
