Just latley when I turn on my PC it only shows I have 1 DVD installed, it will not recognise my LG DVDRW, it will only recognise my HP DVD RW they are both on the same IDE cable, it has always done so in the past but for the last week its as though its not connected?
So have you checked the cabling? Watch the screens at startup. All drives should be identified by model in the startup screens.
If the drives do not show in the startup screens then they will never work in Windows. Loose or bad cabling or defective drive are possibilities. Does the tray operate on the DVD drive?
I've checked the cables all ok shows sometimes on front screen and somtimes in my computer. tray opens evertime but sometimes wont read any discs gone into my devices and unistall then gone into control panel and click on added new hardware sometimes this works sometimes doesnt but getting really frustrationg now thanks for advice anyone with anything else to suggest?
It sounds like the drive with the iffy tray is dying. That can cause the other drive to not be recognised. Disconnect the iffy drive. Both the power and data cables. Verify the remaining drive is jumpered either CD(cable select) or preferably Master. Now see if the drive is reliably recognised.
