My HP Pavillion 8665c wont boot up past the blue hewlett packard screen. Ive tried pressing every key during bootup to escape to bios but nothing happens. Also tried using both a boot disk floppy and the cd system recovery disk to boot up but still nothing happens. Is this the sign of a bad motherboard?

Three questions:
1. What were you doing just before you shut down the computer last time, while it was working okay.
2. Did you download anything off the internet, or through email just before your problems started?
3. Are you using the WIN98 boot disk, and does your A drive power light flicker when you first boot, or is it just dead? Do you get any messages at all, can you see the HP Logo screen, or does it just jump to a blue screen and hangs?

It's very unusual for a mobo to just die. Were you overclocking, or anything unusual?

Well, my roomate was the last one to use the computer and he says that he was just surfing like normal checking out the WWE wrestling sites and such. Didnt download anything. Is he lying? Not sure.

I was using a norton systemworks boot disk i created on my main comp but the floppy drive never even lights up (it definitely used to) but the cd drive and hard drive lights go through their cycles. The screen freezes up at the HP logo screen. After trying the boot up disk, I put the recovery disk that came with the system into the cd drive which does light up when booted but it still froze up at the HP logo screen. I have not overclocked or anything hardware related on this computer except to put in a new network card about 2 years ago.

Alright....solved the problem. Was a faulty keyboard causing the computer to not even reach the floppy drive stage of the boot up. Never had the keyboard freeze up the booting process that early.
