My home built Abit KR7A computer worked for 2+ years. It started to act "squirrely" for a few days and now won't boot. Powers up and then I get a long beep, pause, long beep, pause, etc. Fans run, etc.
So far, I tried the RAM in another computer and it worked fine. I replaced the motherboard with a new Abit NF7-S2 and I still get the same beep pause beep (no boot) problem. What the heck??? There isn't a heck of a lot left. Power supply?? Help and any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Dave

Does it beep without the video card in-place ?

B4 you criticize a bigger man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, you're a mile away, and you have his shoes.

Hopefully your CPU is not the culprit, BTW how many beeps are we talking about here ?

We're talking a long beep (2 sec), a 4 sec pause, a long beep, etc., continuously.
By the way, THANK YOU for the line about walking a mile in another man's shoes. It gave me a good laugh while I was pulling my hair out about that computer.

You've pretty much ruled out every other possibility other than the CPU............;~(

You are probably right, but I'm going to screw around with the memory a little bit more. I have six sticks of this Crucial DDR2100 registered memory... and all but two have had to go back for warranty replacement. Thanks anyway. I think I have another CPU I can sub in this machine to see what happens. Thanks for the responses!

Check here to see what the bios beepcodes mean

I think I have found the problem. I think the original MB was bad, but the new one doesn't like the Crucial registered memory. Crucial's website doesn't list the stuff I've got for this MB. Shame on me for not checking!! Thank you both for the input. Dave

Just got back from best Buy with a strip of PNY 512MB PC2700 (non-registered)memory. Stuck it in.. one beep and we are operational. Original problem apparently was the mother board. Thanks again for talking to me.
